Belt Size Guide

The most accurate way to size a belt is to measure from the buckle to your most‑used hole. Use the steps below to confirm your size in inches or centimeters.

How to measure

1) Measure an existing belt

  1. Lay the belt flat.
  2. Measure from the inside edge of the buckle (where the prong meets the buckle) to your most‑used hole.
  3. This measurement equals your belt size to the center hole.

Note: We size to the center hole. You’ll have adjustment holes on either side.

2) Measure through belt loops

  1. Using a soft tape, measure through your belt loops at the height you wear the belt (waist or hips).
  2. Do not pull tight; keep it comfortably snug.
  3. Add ~2 inches (5 cm) to get your belt size to the center hole.

Wearing over thicker garments? Consider adding one extra hole’s allowance.

3) Rule of thumb

  • Pants size + 2 inches ≈ belt size (center hole).
  • Example: 32" pants → 34" belt.
  • In centimeters: Multiply inches × 2.54 and round to the nearest 5 cm.

Body proportions and brand fits vary—measuring is always best.

Hole layout & tolerance

  • We size belts to the center hole.
  • Standard layout: 5 holes, spaced 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  • Typical fit range: ±2 inches (±5 cm) around the center hole.
  • Handcrafted tolerance: ±3–5 mm is normal.

Quick reference table

Use as a starting point. If possible, measure for best results.

Pants size (in) Recommended belt (in) Center‑hole length (cm) Nominal belt size (cm)
28" 30" 76.2 cm 75 cm
30" 32" 81.3 cm 80 cm
32" 34" 86.4 cm 85 cm
34" 36" 91.4 cm 90 cm
36" 38" 96.5 cm 95 cm
38" 40" 101.6 cm 100 cm
40" 42" 106.7 cm 105 cm

Note: Metric belts are commonly offered in 5 cm increments (e.g., 80, 85, 90, 95, 100 cm).

Buckle styles & where to measure

  • Prong/tongue buckles: Measure from the inside edge of the buckle (at the prong) to the hole.
  • Plate/micro‑adjust buckles: Measure from where the strap meets the clasp as per manufacturer guidance.
  • If unsure, share a photo—we’ll confirm the correct reference point.

Fit tips

  • Waist vs. hips: If you wear belts lower on the hips, you likely need a larger size.
  • Layering: If you often wear over thicker garments, consider sizing up by one hole (~1").
  • Leather thickness: Thicker straps can feel tighter; measuring through loops captures this.

Conversions

Inches → Centimeters: cm = in × 2.54

Example: 34" → 86.4 cm (≈ 85 or 90 cm nominal)

Centimeters → Inches: in = cm ÷ 2.54

Example: 95 cm → 37.4" (≈ 38")
